my point exactly,alot of people are like sheep,they just follow the herd.seperate the lyrics from the music and you'll hear that they are very simple musicians,nothing special at all.add that to most of their songs are simple repeating lyrics.why the hype???not denying they sold loads but thats why they are in lists.'its cool to like the beatles'.in my view,ABBA had more actual musical talent,break their songs down and listen.

The thing is: In pop music you do not have to be a virtuoso to be great. One thing I can say about the Beatles, Lennon-McCartney are the greatest songwriters of the last 60 years. The amount of great songs they wrote is unbelievable. Most people do not give enough credit to George Martin. I think they were very simple when they first came out. When you see were they went in 2-3 years from 1962-63 to 1965-66, it's astounding.

It's their SONGWRITING ability, hands down. Certainly none of the beatles were celebrated instrumentalists, but in terms of inventive songwriting, and VERY inventive studo work (we're talking years ahead of their time), nobody can touch the beatles.

I suggest all you beatles fans open your ears to other groups/bands/song writers and see/hear that others have the WHOLE package...ie play AND write to levels that exceed the scallies from scouse land.

The Beatles were hardly mediocre. No band in history has been more covered, emulated or copied. You may not like them and may list countless other bands you think better, but I bet if you ask THOSE bands who influenced them, they'd say the goddam Beatles. You can't get away from the staggering contribution they made to music.
