i usually don't get into arguments like this, but tough as she was, Surya was never robbed of a gold medal. Her performances at Worlds and Olympics just weren't as strong as at Europeans and the other smaller competitions. Oksana, Yuka and Chen beat her because they skated better.

LOL 1/2 turn right it was cheated but by less than 1/4 on the lutz and flip. Besides I believe it was Ivanova for the worst spins in history and I like her.

You are a stupid Surya Bonaly fanatic who goes on threads of all the skaters who beat her for the World title and thrashing them. Surya had the worst edges in the history of womens skating so how is that for you. That is even worse since that is the foundation of the sport. If Surya was ever robbed of a World title it was in 1993. Sato in 1994 and Chen in 1995 beat her fair and square.

I'm a fan of Surya but I don't think she got robbed of the world title neither in 1993. She might have been close or even slighlty superior to Oksana for technical merit (although on my personal opinion Oksana's jumps were neater) but Oksana's artistic impression was far beyond everybody else's.

Oh give me a break - it wasn't THAT bad. I just watched it again here on YouTube. She was very emotional (understandably so) and couldn't bear to be cheated once again out of a gold medal. It was quite clear that her ire was directed at the racist judges and not at Yuka Sato.

Muffycat, I think you are wrong about Surya. She doesn't have the worst edges. Her edges empathizes on power and Surya, is the most powerful figure skater ever. Chen, in contrast is graceful and more fluid in form. Surya is more of an athlete on the blades and due to her gymnastic training, she incorporates them into her ice skating. She is more of a show stopper than a competitive figure skater like Chen is. Lets hope this clears the ice to which we both sit on.

Surya though atleast sustained her best jumping standard for 5 or 6 years. Tonya only sustained her best jumping standard for one year. So while Tonya's best jumping is better then Surya's best, Surya I consider the better jumper since Tonya was a massive underachiever who couldnt keep up her best jumping level for any length of time.

Spectacular performance, one of the most beautiful programs in the history of the sport. It wasn't just about the jumps, her choreography and presentation was exquisite! Hard to believe one judge actually put her behind Nicole Bobek, and another judge put her in 2nd!

You are so right. Surya was very good at jumping but to call her the most powerful figure skater ever if overstating things a great deal. Tonya had stronger jumps when fit and trained, but that was only 20% of the time while Surya had much stronger work ethic then Tonya and kept her best jumping level alot longer because of it, really only injury and age could keep her from it.

I give her great credit for her jumping technique. She doesn't get much height, but she takes her lutzes off the outside edge, no cheating. A well-deserved gold. That night she had the best combination of technique and choreography.
Does anyone know what she does know?
