Lol that's what I mean. The Anime is based off of the Manga, so how did the MANGA change the characters? The Manga came first, so it wouldn't make sense to say it changed the characters o_o;

Nope, your wrong. The manga premiered first, but the anime was written first.
Again, the 2nd issue of the manga didn't come out until AFTER the series was finished, and the manga STILL isn't done after 13 years.

I disagree, the manga just does what fans want NGE to be, some shallow work with no real depth or brilliance to it. Sadamoto can be considered the co-creator but even hes trying to make his work somewhat meaningfull as the anime was.

Space Runaway Ideon, it's not better, but it is an anime NGE took a huge influence from, and it was made by the same guy who made Gundam.

Ideon homage righ there. If you watch Ideon though, you'll see a whole lot of things it paid homage to (Star Wars, 2001: Space Odessey, there's even an episode titled "Planet of the Apes")

Evangelion takes a lot from other manga/anime (such as Akira), but it is still great, perhaps better than its influences.

I don't see much of Akira's presence in Eva, in fact, Evangelion is cited to have broken the trend that Akira was apart of, where only anime with heavy western influences were being successful (Akira is sourced with American comic books).
Shinji's name came from a guy who worked on Sailor moon, Asuka was a heroine from some manga even Anno himself doesn't recall, besides that, Anno's early work, and Ideon, there's not much else anime-wise, most of what's left came from literary works. (CHE)
