I'm not sure if it is the case in Ford duratec engines in particular, but 1-3-4-2 is a common firing order in straight-four engines since it reduces vibration significantly and gives smoother power output since you have one power stroke for every 180 degrees of rotation of the crankshaft. Sorry if I just told you something you already knew :)

considering that modern engines are analysed and optimised using a computerised model of the engine, I think it must have taken less time than you might think since the models of the engine and all its components were pre-existing before the making of this video, if you know what I mean...

Yes, no doubt they would have had access to CAD files, but that presents its own set of headaches. First off it's usually a massive amount of information when you're dealing with car stuff running into gigabites and it all needs to be made sense of. And second, you usually have to do a ton of work on the files to get them into the kind of shape you need for them to work cleanly in your 3d package.

great work i really loved is , i have a little question here , is it possible to assemble the connecting rods for the pistons on the crankshaft before its' mounted on the block , cause as far as i know pistons aways come from the top ..

Its a ford engine and it is a DuraTEC. And yes it runs on CHAINS. The auxiliary units run on a single belt.
