people use guns here for target practice or target competitions that's it. just very recently they started allowing people to carry.

True, it wouldn't, but what if OTHER people are armed?
For example, if a criminal tries to rob a place like a bank or a convenience store, he pulls a gun on the cashier, and every customer in the store pulls a gun on him.
Also, if the criminal doesn't have a gun, but another weapon has a knife or a bat, I'd still prefer to have something more powerful.

Well, I'm glad it works as well as it does in Japan, but unfortunately, law enforcement doesn't work the same way in the US.
Our own Supreme Court has ruled that police have no legal obligation to protect individual citizens. Look up a case called Warren vs. Districe of Columbia.
Not saying all cops don't want to protect people, but they are not required to do so.
