Vaginal Childbirth (Birth) 3D Video Animation

Uploaded by: nucleusanimation
Video Description:
This simplified 3D medical animation depicts a normal vaginal birth using a time-lapse effect. Strong uterine contractions push the fetus (baby) forcibly through the birth canal during labor. Concurrently, a picture-in-picture effect at the upper right shows the baby's head moving through the mother's pelvic outlet. How can you deny ... ( 1 week ago by ASKaPHYSICIST)
How can you deny women the right of having control over their own bodies. refusing to support an undeveloped/unborn life is not comparable to criminal acts such as murder or theft. It may be immoral, but so is selling cigarets/fast food, not giving to charity, drunkeness, pollution, unprotected sex etc. and all that is legal allthough it causes many more deaths than abortions do.
This is a highly ... ( 1 week ago by rcollins305)
This is a highly charged issue, and you make a strong point about women controlling "their own bodies." Morally or legally, at what point do you think a growing human fetus should be entitled to rights over its/her/his body? What is the role of a pregnant women to the fetus she carries? Is she the owner?

Well, I'm no specialist. I suppose if there is literally just a cluster of cells there no harm done. Anyways, what I'm saying is, somone who has expert knowledge of the devlopment pahses of a fetus should make such decions. We shouldn't leave it up to the selfrightous opinions of the ignorant masses.
I don't think the woman is the owner. She is the host organism. and in the case of rape or contraception failure she got into that role against her will or choosing.

I don't think the goverment should have the unlimited right to force someone to play that part.

i agree. a clump of cells is by no means a life.
You accurately ... ( 1 week ago by rcollins305)
You accurately point to what is the center of the argument for or against abortion. In your opinion, if human life doesn't begin at the early cellular stage of development, when does it begin?
when body systems ... ( 1 week ago by BillyG800)
when body systems form. when brain activity begins, and heartbeat comes, and the signs of a living organism are apparent. if a clump of body cells is a life, then is scraping the inside of your cheek for cell samples considered murder?
well no. at least ... ( 1 week ago by BillyG800)
well no. at least not in my opinion. ans though i respect others' viewpoints, this clump of cells that will grow into a human being is merely a potential person. its rights are undoubtedly trumped by its mother, an actual person. in order to protect her interests she needs to have control over her body. do you believe abortions violate a fetus's right to life?
As a famous doctor ... ( 1 week ago by rcollins305)
As a famous doctor once said, "A person is a person, no matter how small."
Not sure what a "potential person" is, as I have yet to receive my Certificate of Actual Personhood.
Perhaps. But ... ( 1 week ago by BillyG800)
Perhaps. But Philosopher Mary Anne Warren writes in her piece "A Defense of Abortion" that to be considered a person, in addition to being genetically human, a being should have the following 5 traits:
1 Consciousness and the ability to feel pain
2 Reasoning, capacity to solve problems
3 Self-motivated activity
4 ability to communicate on indefinitely many topics
5 presence of self-concepts and self-awareness
All (w/exception of 1 & 2) are not necessary, but if none are represented, no person.
Good retort, but ... ( 1 week ago by rcollins305)
Good retort, but seriously, Warren's complete definition of "human" excludes infants, and arguably late term fetuses exhibit traits 1 and 3 within limits. Her opinion might fly as an abstract concept in academia, but should it be used as a decision-making foundation in a moral society?
The debate becomes more resonant when a woman has to decide whether or not to abort. I don't think many pregnant women use Professor Warren's decision matrix at that time, nor do courts, because it is inhumane.
nice retort to you ... ( 1 week ago by BillyG800)
nice retort to you as well. and i agree with you that in a practical sense Warren's argument may have some holes when it's up to the woman to choose the discourse of her pregnancy.
But regardless, i believe a woman should not be required by the state or national gov't to carry a pregnancy to term if she does not want to.
IMO, you won't have ... ( 6 days ago by rcollins305)
IMO, you won't have to worry about the repeal of Roe v. Wade anytime soon, and abortion will remain a personal decision indefinitely.
Thanks for the discussion and I'll close with this: if anyone reading this is about to make a decision on abortion, just know that pregnancy is not the end of the world or your productive life. And if you don't have the means or desire to care for a child, there are tens of thousands of loving parents ready to adopt.
Good luck and God bless.

For those who said everyone should adopt ... in my opinion we shouldn't. Adoption for me for the people who are unable to have kids or have a fear of pain. Giving birth is beautiful. For i am extremely excited to have a kid.
